Enichkin is Sergey Nazarenko, discovered by Goa Gil, and his second album, In Memory of Love, which was also produced by Gil, was just released by veteran label Avatar Records. I never heard his first album, but In Memory of Love is pretty weird. All the tracks are around 157-165 bpm, so you’d expect this to be all kick and no slick at all. That’s where you’ll be proven wrong, because Enichkin, despite being so fast, manages to sound pretty uplifting overall. Couple this with all those spiritual samples inside and you’re there, a weird album that manages to entice, all the way from the title to the colorful and spiritual artwork. The music on offer here is multi-layered, and I guess there will be people that cannot wrap their head around some of the tracks here. Elementary Particles (T3) for instance, sounds very busy. To discover and understand all those intricacies you’ll have to listen to it more than once. That’s also where one of the strong points of this album comes forward. It’s got replayability in droves, even if it was only because of the fact that some tracks are so busy that you can’t wrap your head around them the first time around. The promo calls this IDM (Intelligent Dance Music), a genre put forward by acts like Autechre, Aphex Twin, Brothom States and the like. I wouldn’t go that far, but if you really want a comparison, the first Psykovsky album might be a good one to think about. My head sunk into this style pretty quick, but that’s probably because I listen to lots of other electronic genres as well. Most people that are used to more ‘regular’ psytrance will need some time to grasp this.

Recomendation:  I found this album to be rich and full of sounds and little intricacies to wrap your brain around. If you’re looking for something different, this is a good place to look.

Favorite tracks:2, 3, 6, 9, 10.
